Building materials producer CertainTeed LLC announced plans to build a roofing manufacturing and distribution site in Bryan, Texas. The Saint-Gobain subsidiary expects the $140 million investment to create 130 jobs. It also marks the first new CertainTeed roofing plant in the U.S. in six years.
The facility will house both production areas and a distribution center. The location aims to decrease product transportation distances, which will reduce CertainTeed’s carbon footprint and align with Saint-Gobain’s goal to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.
Construction on the distribution center is scheduled to begin this year. CertainTeed did not disclose a project completion date but did say it would take several years.
Carmen Bodden, CertainTeed’s vice president and general manager, said the investment would help the company serve its customers in Texas and the southern U.S. Bodden added that CertainTeed’s sustainable construction operations would minimize the company’s environmental footprint.
CertainTeed received a $546,000 grant from Texas Enterprise Fund and a Veteran Created Job Bonus offer worth $1,000. Saint-Gobain, a French designer, manufacturer, and distributor of solutions and materials, operates more than 120 manufacturing locations in the U.S. Founded in 1665, the company employs 166,000 workers globally and is present in 76 countries.
